Corey Gameiro to call APIA Leichhardt home

With the mid-season National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s transfer window in full swing, top tier side APIA Leichhardt FC have made its first signing in the form of former Australian youth international and ex-A-League star Corey Gameiro.

The 28-year-old marksman will call Lambert Park home as he hopes to reignite the form that saw him play in Europe with the likes of Fulham, Hayes & Yeading and FC Eindhoven before taking part in our national competition with Wellington Phoenix, Sydney FC, Melbourne City, Brisbane Roar and the Central Coast Mariners.

Injuries have unfortunately set back the star marksman who also played in last season’s NPL 2 NSW Men’s competition with St George City, but the Kellyville Kolts Technical Director is eagerly anticipating hitting that pitch once more.

“I’m super excited to be back out playing”, said Gameiro.

“I wasn’t sure I wanted to play anymore after being let down with injuries.

“After being invited to come in and train with APIA as well as seeing how my body would react to training again, it’s been a great feeling being back.

“It’s been a couple months that I’ve been back training and I am taking baby steps with it all but I am in a good space with this.

“This group of players is the best dressing room I’ve ever been involved with, they’re such a tight group, it’s a privilege to be a part of.

“All of the coaching staff have really looked after me and have been patient with me which is so nice to have people just wanting me back out there playing and enjoying my football once again.

“I can’t wait to continue to build on this and just getting out on the pitch and playing some football.

“Paul (Dee) has come in and demanded nothing but the best from this playing group, which I couldn’t agree with more, we have a fantastic squad with a lot of quality.

“I’m sure we will have a strong back end of the season and I just want to play my part and help when needed.”

Gameiro may get his opportunity sooner rather than later when APIA hosts NPL 2 NSW Men’s side Bonnyrigg White Eagles in tonight’s Round 5 FFA Cup Preliminary round clash at Lambert Park (7:30pm kick-off).
