Caravella signature a huge coup for FNQ Heat

FNQ FC Heat's squad has been seriously bolstered after the club confirmed it has signed former Hyundai A-League star Zenon Caravella for the remainder of the NPL Queensland season.

Caravella, 31, originally hails from Cairns and is expected to make his debut for Heat in their home clash with Sunshine Coast Fire today at Barlow Park.

The midfielder made 127 Hyundai A-League appearances with four clubs over six seasons, with stints at New Zealand Knights, Gold Coast United, Adelaide United and finally the Newcastle Jets where he played last season.

Caravella, who won a Club Champion Award during his time at Adelaide United, becomes the second former Hyundai A-League player at FNQ Heat this season, joining fellow midfielder Alex Smith, who spent time with the Wellington Phoenix.

Caravella’s experience is certain to significantly boost a Heat side scheduled to play seven games in the next five weeks – including the club’s Westfield FFA Cup tie against Sydney United 58 on August 12 in Sydney.

Heat currently sits sixth in the NPL Queensland standings, two points outside the competition's top four finals places.
