Football NSW’s Bonnyrigg White Eagles will host South Australia’s MetroStars SC in the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues 2014 Grand Final after both won their respective Semi Finals to progress to the decider.
In equally tense affairs, Bonnyrigg defeated Queensland’s Premiership/Championship double winners Palm Beach Sharks 1-0 in the first Semi Final at the Bonnyrigg Sports Club on Saturday night before MetroStars SC toppled Victorian Premiers South Melbourne FC 2-1 this afternoon at Lakeside Stadium in Melbourne.
Striker and National Premier Leagues NSW Golden Boot winner Robbie Younis’ 39th minute strike proved the difference as Bonnyrigg ensured their spot in the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues Grand Final, Palm Beach Sharks unable to keep the winning momentum going which has also seen them reach the Quarter Finals of the Westfield FFA Cup.
MetroStars SC then stunned hosts South Melbourne to book their place in the big one. The South Australians were given the dream start when South Melbourne’s James Musa turned the ball into his own net after 11 minutes.
A familiar source had the Victorians back on level terms in the 36th minute as striker Milos Lujic sent a header into the back of the net and the Victorian club could have gone into the break in front when they awarded a penalty but Jamie Reed blazed his spot kick over the bar.
The miss would end up proving costly as Scott Tunbridge came back to haunt his former club, latching onto a superb volley to give MetroStars SC back the advantage, an advantage they would manage to hold onto until the final whistle.
So eight teams have been narrowed down to two for the honour of being crowned PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues 2014 Champions. But notably, the Grand Final will also determine which club receives an automatic spot in next year’s Westfield FFA Cup Round of 32.
The date, venue and kick-off time of the PlayStation 4 National Premier Leagues 2014 Grand Final will be released in the coming days.
