Aussie footballers' unique experience with New Balance

Sixty lucky footballers have won a unique opportunity to be among the first in the world to test out fresh New Balance football boots throughout the 2016/17 season.

As part of New Balance’s ‘Blackout Squad’ competition, the winners will get to road test the latest boots before they hit the shelves along with training gear and merchandise.

Each squad member receives the latest ‘Furon’ boots and the same equipment and apparel that New Balance’s professional players use.

The squad also gets to provide feedback into the next generation of New Balance boots.

The competition encourages amateur footballers to outline why they should be a part of the blackout squad and after a judging process, 150 finalists are chosen to make it to the final stage.

Finalists were then required to upload an Instagram video showing off their skills and showing ‘what separates you from the rest when it comes to being deadly accurate with a football!’.

And after an exhaustive judging process, NB selected its final 60-player squad across Australia and New Zealand.

One of the lucky winners, 15-year-old Hurry Campbell - who plays for PS4 NPL club Western Pride - is hopeful of forging a career as a professional football and already has a relative plying his trade in England.

“The person who inspires me the most is my cousin, Aiden O'Neill. This is because ever since we were kids we would always play football together, and he would always tell me to train harder in order to achieve my goals,” Campbell said.

“If I could play for any club it would have to be Burnley FC. This is because my cousin currently plays there and ever since he was selected to play there I have always had the drive and ambition to one day play there as well.”
