South Hobart got off to the perfect start for the 2017 NPL Season, comprehensively beating the Olympia Warriors 3-0 at Warrior Park.

After a tense opening half, South Hobart pounced on three defensive errors to take the three points back to the Western Shore and complete a successful raid. South Hobart’s full backs, Adam Gorrie and Liam Quaile starred for South Hobart whilst Alex Walter and Ben Hamlett scrambled hard up top to find goals.

City and Lions share spoils
aunceston City and Kingborough played out an entertaining 1-1 draw on City’s training ground at the newly named ‘Buckby Land Rover Park’ for round 1 of the 2017 NPL Season on Saturday afternoon.
The first half started off at a frenetic pace with both teams eager to show how far they’ve come since last season. The first half threatened to be the Benny Kovadio show. He continuously threatened City’s back three of Butler, Frost and Goold from the right wing, at times slicing them apart and getting into good areas of City’s 18 yard box but on a number of occasions failed to pull the trigger.

Strikers and Zebras draw on Savill's return
The Devonport Strikers and Hobart Zebras opened up their 2017 seasons with a thrilling 2-2 draw at Valley Road on Saturday afternoon. On a day that saw Peter Savill’s return to the club he guided to glory last season, both his current and former side were left with plenty of positives, but just the solitary point to take home after the Brother’s Dance, cancelled out an Adam Mckeown brace.
The Zebras enjoyed the better of the first half and produced the more threatening moments. In a contrast of styles, the Zebras played a more direct game, similar to what Devonport produced last season, whilst Devonport were more focused on shorter sharper passing combinations.
