Canberra FC wrapped up their 22nd League Championship title with a dramatic 3-2 win over the Tigers in that encounter, snatching the league trophy from under the noses of the title holders with a final day success led by a brace from in-form striker Thomas James.
These two rivals are well-versed in the quality that both possess with goals almost assured with some of the competitions leading lights on show.
Golden Boot winner Alex Oloriegbe will lead the line for the Tigers with his nineteen goals this season taking him to 93 in the all-time goalscorers chart and his threat is well known to his former employers.
The Tigers will be desperate to put one over on FC to make up for the disappointment of not being able to hold onto the League title crown but a win in this match would go some way towards redressing the balance. With no love lost between two of the best assembled squads in the region and pace and power aplenty, hold onto your hats for what is expected to be a top quality match with barely a pause for breath guaranteed.

Belconnen United v Canberra Olympic

If the Qualifying Semi-Final is expected to provide fireworks the Elimination Semi-Final between Belconnen United and Canberra Olympic is sure to more than equal it with no second chances for the vanquished.
As part of a double-header of matches at McKellar Park the atmosphere should be rocking as two goliaths of Canberra clash for a place in next weekend’s Preliminary Final. To make that stage Canberra Olympic will need to do something that they haven’t managed during the League season, defeat the Blue Devils.
Belconnen took the honours on both occasions the teams met in the 2015 regular season with a 3-2 success at this venue in Round 3 followed by a 2-1 victory at O’Connor Enclosed in Round 12.
For a large portion of the season Belconnen United appeared set to challenge for the championship itself but a costly home loss to the Tigers, followed by a draw at McKellar Park with FFA COE severely dented those aspirations allowing long-time nemesis Canberra FC to sneak past and take the honours.
Olympic squeezed into the top four on the final day of the campaign drawing 1-1 with Gungahlin United and denying the Gunners a place in the semi-finals in the process. Callum Smith’s goal proved vital for Frank Cachia and his team as the point gained saw goal difference come into the equation with Olympic slipping into fourth spot. With winner takes all and the losers season ending here, the tension should be ratcheted up a notch and the pressure may be all encompassing.
