'Bomber' Brown targets pinnacle trophy

He’s regarded as one of the best coaches in second tier football history and has won it all, but Brian ‘Bomber’ Brown says leading Bonnyrigg to the PS4 NPL title would top it all off.

In a thrilling end to the PS4 NPL finals, Brown’s White Eagles take on the MetroStars from South Australia at Lambert Park in Leichhardt this Saturday afternoon.

Having won numerous titles as a coach at Blacktown, Sutherland and Bonnyrigg in the NSW State League, Brown is no stranger to success but admits this would be the icing on the cake.

“This would be right up the top. The only thing left after this is to win would be something in the A-League,” Brown told www.nationalpremierleagues.com.au

“We actually had a chat about it at training (through the week) with the coaches and the staff that this is a big thing for us.

“We’ll certainly be turning up going all out to win it. For us it’s the pinnacle to be the best team in the country outside the A-League, that’s what this means to us.”

Bonnyrigg will start warm favourites against the MetroStars are will become the second straight NSW NPL1 club to win the competition if victorious, following on from Sydney United 58’s triumph in 2013.

But Brown knows his side is in for a brutal battle against Ivan Karlovic’s well-drilled side, who have already won on the road twice in the tournament.

“We’ve watched a couple of DVD’s and YouTube video clips and I think they’re quite a physical team,” Brown said.

“We had a look and I think they had 63 yellow cards in the league.

"We’re expecting a tough match and it will be no different than playing any of the other clubs in Sydney. It will be difficult but we’ve got everyone available."

There is even more reason to attend Saturday's final with a chance to win a PS4 and a host of other cool prizes.

All you have to do is get to the PS4 Zone at the venue, register your name and mobile number and you go into the running.

There will also be a Bubble Football match at half-time with a PS4 as the prize while a designated area has been set aside to play the new FIFA 15 game.
